2.3 Assignment- The Internet Assignment

Completion requirements

infographicThe Internet is now so woven into our everyday lives that most high school students can't imagine how previous generations did anything without it. Yes, your parents got by reading newspapers, listening to the radio, phoning each other on landlines, going to movie theatres and studying from textbooks. Somehow, the Internet made all of those activities seem quaint.

For this assignment, you will be creating an infographic called "My Internet" (or something to that effect). You will need to include a section called "How the Internet Works" as well as a section for how you use the Internet for the following:

  • Communication
  • Entertainment
  • School/Work
  • Maps/Directions
  • Mobile Internet including apps
To the right, you will see an example of an infographic, which is a type of poster which you may have come across online. The purpose of an infographic is to communicate information as effectively as possible using a combination of text, graphics, photos, icons, and charts. Infographics also make use of graphic design by optimizing layout, using colour to connect ideas, making use of headlines and sub-headers - all to cram as much information into as little space as possible.

Your infographic might not look as slick as the one shown here (though it might) but it should be approximately as detailed.

To create your infographic you may use Canva (you'll need to sign up for an account), a word-processor such as MS Word or Pages, Google Docs, or a graphics program such as GIMP or Procreate. Your teacher should be able to help you with this.

Your infographic will use a combination of text and graphics in an effective manner. You will do your best to layout this out to show connections between the topics you have covered here.

At the end, you will need to include a list of resources which you have used.

If you want to look at a larger version of the infographic to the right, you can just click on it.

You will need to hand this in as an uploaded document (not a link to one).

Lastly, in the text box provided, you will need to write a statement of 4-7 sentences in which you explain the choices you made to create this infographic. For example, if you linked topics by colour, you will need to explain that.
