Project:  Play Building

To conclude the Drama unit, you’ll put on a show … a small one. You’ll choose from the scenes provided below and you’ll perform the scene on camera in a single shot, as if it were a live performance.

LIST OF SCENES:

  • Brenda the Bunny
  • The One with the Pox

You have probably noticed that, unlike a monologue, these scenes require more than one actor. So, you'll need to rely on a friend or family member to help you. There are two ways that you may do this:

  • Get an assistant to act with you in your scene. Just like you, they'll learn their lines, they'll wear a costume, and they'll act their hearts out! This is the easiest approach because acting with a scene partner requires us to react and respond to their performance, but it might be challenging to find a willing assistant.
  • Get an assistant to read the other character's lines off-camera. They may read from the script and do not need to wear a costume. You will be on camera, reacting and responding as though you were acting alongside your assistant. This can be more challenging for you as an actor, but it may be easier to find a willing assistant.

CRITERIA:

  • You are an actor in the scene
  • You direct your assistant actor to use the tools they’ve got (voice, face, and body) so that their performance effectively complements yours
  • Your video is filmed from a single angle and no cuts are made. This is performed in one shot, as if the camera is your live audience
  • You and your actors can be clearly heard
  • The video includes an introduction that mentions the scene’s title and the actors involved
  • Your actors are wearing costumes and appropriate props are used
  • Your setting is appropriate (no blank walls for this one). You may need to create a set at home by moving some furniture around or (if you’re tech-savvy) using a green screen. Get creative!
