Project: Research or Create

For this task, choose ONE of two options: a research assignment or a dance routine assignment. Take a look at both sets of instructions and choose the project that interests you most!

Option 1 – Research

Choose a folk dance that interests you. Research this dance style, practice it in private, and then write an essay to teach others about it. Your essay should cover these topics:

• Its origin
• What purpose it serves
• How is this style still practiced today (or why it isn’t practiced anymore)
• Reflect on your experience practicing it. Was it challenging? Did you learn something new?

Essay Criteria:

• Have a title
• Be 300 – 500 words in length
• Be original work (no copying or A.I. text generating)
• Use proper Canadian writing conventions (good punctuation, structure, vocabulary)
• Include a few images to help visualize this style

Option 2 – Dance Routine

Choose a folk dance that interests you. Research this dance style, practice it, and then record a 90 – 120 second routine showcasing the style.

Criteria:

• Dance routine can be copied or original
• Music is appropriate for this dance
• Music can be clearly heard
• You can be clearly seen
• 90 – 120 seconds of dancing
